Objectives
The overall objective of TroFCCA is to promote approaches for adaptation to the adverse effects of climate change on tropical ecosystems and related human systems. The project will be implemented in three regions and will focus on assessing and addressing vulnerability and adaptation to ensure the future of goods and services from forests.
The specific objectives of the project will be:- To evaluate the impacts of climate change and climate variability on tropical forest ecosystems in selected sites
- To develop and test a set of methods for the assessment of vulnerability of forest ecosystems within a development context
- To develop and test tools (databases, expert systems, models and others) for vulnerability assessment and the assessment of adaptation strategies
- To develop and test criteria and indicators for adaptive management of tropical forests
- To develop policy-oriented strategies for adaptation of tropical forests to climate change, taking into consideration the relevance of these systems to specific aspects of the development policy
- To initiate a science-policy dialogue in and across the three pilot regions (South East Asia; West Africa, Central America) to test the practicality of the developed methods, to disseminate practical and useful information on reducing vulnerability through adaptive forest management, and to build capacity in developing countries through training sessions
