Adaptation [ Web View ]

Adaptation is addressed in two different ways:

  • First, by implementing a regional policy dialogue that is implemented through annual workshops. These workshops address adaptation needs and opportunities, regional cooperation and also consider the results of the research produced by TroFCCA.
  • Second, by responding to adaptation needs and priorities after the application of TroFCCA's methodology. Adaptation strategies are focused at policies and other institutional setups already existing in the regions. The analysis of current institutional setups were undertaken with a view to make recommendations to incorporate adaptation issues. The staff of the project will compile a manual on adaptation actions for tropical forest ecosystems as a guide for project developers.

After the application of the methodology, phase 3 will try to answer to the following questions:

  • How do expected impacts of climate change over forests hinder the agreed development topics ?
  • Which forest systems need to be managed in what way to reduce vulnerability in a specific are/topic
  • What policy options are there to adapt?
  • How could adaptation be incorporated in national policies?
  • Which would be the role of different actors, in particular, for the national government and the private sector?
  • What message can be sent to the international community, in particular, relating to vulnerability of biodiversity and feedbacks of climate change into carbon storage and sequestration?
