Global warming is really happening and may cause a real threat to human being such as unpredictable weather, high intensity of rainfalls and many kinds of natural disasters. “All of these should warn public in general that the climate change is happening now and human being will be difficult to adapt if the earth is warming too fast”, said Dr Heru Santoso, Asia Coordinator of TroFCCA Project, CIFOR-Bogor.

The CIFOR-WWF workshop was held in early May in Jakarta with the aim of enhancing the media's knowledge and reporting of the often complex issues surrounding climate change.

TroFCCA in News: Adaptation to climatic changes is imperative

The Jakarta Post, 24 April 2007 TroFCCA Indonesia in collaboration with relevant institutions tries to minimize the lost that is caused by land movement related disasters in Indonesia. By carrying out vulnerability assessment and promoting adaptation strategy based policies, TroFCCA intends to improve adaptation capacity and climate change related land use management in Indonesia.

Fire plays a vital role in maintaining many ecosystems and the local communities that depend on them. On the other hand, too much, or the wrong kind of fire can be a serious threat to some ecosystems and to people. In order to develop effective conservation strategies, we have to understand the relationships among fire, ecosystems and people.

Mudslides in Leyte, Philippines

On February 17, 2006, a series of mudslides caused widespread damage and loss of life in St. Bernard, Leyte, Philippines. More than 2,000 residents were missing or dead. A ten-day torrential rain and a possibly minor earthquake of magnitude 2.6 are the causes of the landslides. Read more about Mudslides in Leyte.
