Adaptation Studies

The region faces severe environmental problems of land degradation, deforestation, drought, desertification, floods, migrating insects resulting partly from climate change and its variability. The most significant climatic change that has occurred in these regions is the long-term reduction in rainfall leading to increased aridity. Adaptation studies in this region are focused on responses to drought and desertification, alternative energy use, wind erosion and flood control.
