Most scientific assessments indicate that the impacts of climate change in West Africa will be high on forest ecosystems and forest communities mainly through increased temperatures and decreased (erratic) rainfall. Together with a rapidly increasing population, poverty and livelihood dependence on forest ecosystem good and services, –(income, building materials, food, fuel-wood, water supply, medicinal plants, wild fruits and nuts, fishing and hunting) the forest ecosystem remains the most vulnerable.

After visiting the various countries and discussing with key actors of various sectors in the region, energy, health, water and food are the vulnerable sectors considering the observed importance of these sectors to the livelihood and the socio economic development of the region.  Hence, TroFCCA West Africa will focus on those sectors for assessment together local partners. This will however, depend on the availability of data and decisions taken jointly by the different actors during the kick off meeting.
