TrofCCA - Tropical Forests and Climate Change Adaptation [ Web View ]
The importance of forests ecosystems as providers of goods and services for society has been widely discussed. An identified need to protect forests through either conservation or sustainable management derives from the fact that forest loss can lead to negative costs to society in terms of foregone goods and services. Climate change (including climate variability), together with major processes as high deforestation rates, can affect the provision of goods and services from forests and, hence, hinder sustainable development.
Tropical forest ecosystems, in particular those on which the livelihoods of people from several regions of the world depend, are among the most vulnerable ecosystems to climate change variability and long term changes in temperature and rainfall. TroFCCA is an effort to contribute to the limited understanding of climate change impacts over forests, as well as to the scarcity of robust methodologies to assess vulnerability and plan for adaptation for these systems in particular.

TroFCCA aims to address mainstreaming adaptation into development policy by undertaking relevant research on how impacts of climate change over forests are likely to undermine specific development policies. |
