Project Description (continued)

WHAT CIFOR OFFERS

CIFOR will be PEN’s primary facilitator and will:

  • Convene and coordinate an international network of scholars
  • Provide guidelines and advice on research methodologies
  • Check and clean data contributed to the common data bank
  • Appoint a contact person as the external theses supervisor (either informally or through formal arrangement with your university)
  • Hold at least one methods workshop for the PEN partners
  • Hold at least one final results workshop for PEN partners and advisors, and publish the results
  • Pay USD $2,000 to each partner for the submission of a data set and for the extra effort required to collect the common data set
  • Assist in the application for fieldwork support, in particular from the International Foundation of Science (IFS) (see below)

The above is a minimum. Depending upon needs and available resources, CIFOR may add further activities and workshops.

IFS and CIFOR have entered an arrangement which will support at least 10 PEN partners from developing countries with research grants up to US$ 12,000 each.
