Project management meetings in Guyana:
The first Scientific Advisory Group meeting (SAG1) and Second Steering Committee
Meeting (SC2) of the ACP FORENET project were held in Guyana, June 16 till 20 in
Georgetown and at the Iwokrama Field Center. The SAG1 meeting saw the
participation of 12 SAG members (from Australia, New-Zealand, Papua New Guinea,
Central African Republic, Congo, Gabon, Guyana, Canada, The Netherlands, France
and Belgium) assisted by the project coordinator and the focal point persons of
the regions. The SC2 meeting was attended by representatives of the donor, of
all the project partners except Papua New Guinea and by observers from the
Iwokrama International Center and from the Guyana Forestry Commission. Minutes
of these meetings are available to project partners in the “Collaboration Tools”
page or by request to the project coordinator (Dr Robert Nasi, CIFOR).

Sustainable Forest Management in Africa Symposium.
South Africa, 3 - 7 November 2008
The Department
of Forest and Wood Science, Stellenbosch University, and the Commercial Products
from the Wild Group, in collaboration with the Copperbelt University (Zambia),
Eduardo Mondlane University (Mozambique), the Research Institute in Tropical
Ecology of the National Centre for Scientific and Technological Research
(Gabon), the Centre for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), Food and
Agricultural Organisation (FAO) and the International Union of Forest Research
Organisations (IUFRO) will host the international Sustainable Forest Management
in Africa Symposium, in South Africa from 3 to 7 November 2008.

The World Conservation Congress. 5 to 14 October 2008, Barcelona, Spain.
The World Conservation Congress, co-hosted by Spain and Catalonia in
Barcelona, Spain from 5 to 14 October 2008, is the premier environmental event
of 2008. The first part of the Congress, the World Conservation Forum, runs from
6 to 10 October and is a great opportunity to debate pressing issues and their
solutions for sustainable development.
