Forests and CDM: how slow it will go?

Mitigation of climate change by reducing emissions greenhouse gases by sources or enhancing removal by sinks through land-use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF) activities under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the Kyoto Protocol has been a long battle. Afforestation (A) and reforestation (R) activities in developing countries were accepted to curb climate change in the first commitment period (2008-2012) as guided by the COP7’s Marakkesh Accord.

To date no A/R CDM project activities has been approved in spite of numerous discussions on CDM in Montreal.
