	Criteria and Indicators (C&I)
	C&I are tools which can be used to conceptualise, evaluate and implement sustainable forest management. C&I can be identified at various levels: global, regional (ecoregional), national and subnational, or, as in this case, at the FMU level. The methods presented in the subsequent pages were developed during the CIFOR project on Testing Criteria and Indicators for Sustainable Forest Management.

	Future Scenarios
	No one can ever know the future, but we can often better prepare for it. This method is about how people can use future scenarios to better prepare for change and uncertainty. In the subsequent pages we introduce scenarios as a tool to plan creatively about the future. We describe several types of future scenario-based methods and provide principles to guide the reader in their use. We show how scenarios can be used as tools to tap the imagination to anticipate the future.

	Participatory Mapping
	Participatory mapping would work as a concrete action that both serves to benefit communities directly as a tool for collaborative management, as well as creates a platform for studying social learning. 	MultiCriteria Analysis
	Multi-Criteria Analysis (MCA) is a decision-making tool developed for complex problems. In a situation where multiple criteria are involved confusion can arise if a logical, well-structured decision-making process is not followed. Another difficulty in decision making is that reaching a general consensus in a multidisciplinary team can be very difficult to achieve. By using MCA the members don't have to agree on the relative importance of the Criteria or the rankings of the alternatives. Each member enters his or her own judgements, and makes a distinct, identifiable contribution to a jointly reached conclusion.

	System Dynamics Modeling
	1.	FLAC (Flores Adaptation and Calibration) It is a tool to adapt and calibrate a general FLORES system dynamic model, created with SIMILE environment, to enable policy makers to explore the consequences of alternative policy actions for rural communities. It is a 'starter kit' designed precisely as a learning tool. 	2.	Models Developed Using FLORES architecture Our research in Zimbabwe, Indonesia and Cameroon produce four different models, which meet local needs.
