Theme 1: Governance of multi-stakeholder forested landscapes

Intermediate Goal

To strengthen multi-stakeholder processes, policy frameworks, institutions and capacities for socially just sharing of benefits, and sustainable management of forested landscapes.

Sub-Theme Objectives

Geographic Focus: Brazil, Bolivia, Cameroon, Central America, Democratic Republic of Congo, Indonesia, Malawi, Nepal, Philippines and Zimbabwe

1. Sub-theme 1: Collaboration, conflict and social learning

To provide technical support and tools for shared learning and institutional capacity building to improve cooperation and management of forest-related conflict among stakeholders at different levels of governance.

2. Sub-theme 2: Community forestry, grassroots social movements and knowledge systems

  • To develop approaches to multi-stakeholder governance of forested landscapes that accommodate different interests justly, promote sustainable forest use and enable forest dependent communities, especially women, ethnic minorities and other marginalized groups, to better influence, participate and equitably share in the benefits.
  • To analyze and share lessons from the experiences of forest-related grassroots social movements, how they have been influenced by external actors and support agencies, and how their knowledge and practices have shaped their landscape.

3. Sub-theme 3: Decentralization and Linking Local and Global Governance

To provide analysis and technical support to multiple stakeholders on how to strengthen policies, multi-stakeholder processes and institutions to enable decentralization to be implemented in a manner that promotes sustainable forest use, secure livelihoods, and effective representation of communities in agenda setting and decision-making.
