Partner Research / Consultant

The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) is an international research and global knowledge institution committed to conserving forests and improving the livelihoods of people in the tropics. CIFOR is looking for a: Partner Research / Consultant
The Consultant will be concentrating on silviculture and forest management and would work under one of the three components of the small-scale tree planting project, entitled “Strengthening Rural Institutions to Support Livelihoods Security for Smallholders Involved in Industrial Tree-planting Programs in Vietnam & Indonesia”. He/She will report directly to the Programme Director of Environmental Services & Sustainable Use of Forests.
Responsibilities:
- Data collection, analyses and management;
- Participate to conduct a literature review on physical and ecological amplitude, growth, yield, and silvicultural aspects of the selected tree species in Indonesia, and contribute to preparation of silvicultural guidelines;
- Translate the forest management system SILVIA into Indonesian language;
- Participate in the project workshop and training, as required;
- Perform other tasks may be required to support the project.
Requirements:
- Have a Master degree in forest management or related field;
- Good knowledge on forests management;
- Experience on data management and modeling;
- Interested in participating to capacity building;
- Good computer skills and experience in using some software would be an advantage;
- Fluent in written and spoken English and Indonesian.
Terms of consultancy:
- The consultancy services shall be for a period between July 1 and December 31, 2008; with a possibility of extension;
- The position will be based in Bogor, Indonesia.
