Initial contract will be for 2 years. Possibility of extension contingent upon performance, continued relevance of this position and available resources

Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the leadership of the Programme Director, the Scientist will be involved in research activities in domain 1 and 2, specifically related to mitigation, adaptation and governance issues at various sites globally.

  1. Facilitation of activities in domain 2 and research related to adaptation and governance issues across scales.
    Such activities and research will focus on:
    • Adaptation policies/programs relevant for forests
    • Forest policies/programs relevant for adaptation
    • Identification and contribution to the development of adaptation strategies addressing the vulnerability of local forest dependent communities to climate change
    • Identification of actors (brokers and bridges) and structures (paths and holes) in the respective policy arenas
    • Local governance versus global governance in the arena of climate change adaptation and forests
    • Scientific backstopping for activities related to governance, policy and institutional analysis in West Africa
    • Scientific backstopping for activities related to governance, policy and institutional analysis in Central Africa
  1. Facilitation of activities and research in domain 1 related to mitigation and governance issues across scales
    • REDD related policy processes Adaptation policies/programs relevant for forests and implementation mechanisms
    • Forest policies/programs relevant for mitigation
    • Identification of actors (brokers and bridges) and structures (paths and holes) in the respective policy arenas
    • Local governance versus national versus global governance in the arena of climate change adaptation and forests
    • Scientific backstopping for activities related to governance, policy and institutional analysis in West Africa
    • Scientific backstopping for activities related to governance, policy and institutional analysis in Central Africa
    • Institutions and frameworks for implementation
    • Local governance versus global governance in the arena of climate change mitigation and REDD
    • Scientific backstopping for activities related to governance, policy and institutional analysis in West Africa on REDD/mitigation
    • Scientific backstopping for activities related to governance, policy and institutional analysis in Central Africa on REDD/mitigation
  2. Identification of future research questions related to adaptation, mitigation and forests and contribution to proposal writing for domain 1 and 2 relevant projects.

The Scientist will work closely with relevant Research Staff in all CIFOR research programmes and domains.

Details of duties, assignments and objectives will be further discussed and laid out in the staff’s annual performance contract.
